Schenectady Greenmarket 2012 Holiday Appeal
December 17, 2012
Dear Friend of Schenectady Greenmarket,
We are celebrating our fifth indoor season with excitement and gratitude. Since opening in November 2008, our weekly market has grown to include over 70 vendors who provide high quality, locally grown and locally produced items for thousands of people who visit the market on Sundays. Together, we are fulfilling our mission:
Schenectady Greenmarket is a place to buy fresh local produce and artisan goods in a festive community atmosphere. We are building a future in which Schenectady Greenmarket is an integral part of downtown's cultural landscape, connecting farm and city to create a responsible, sustainable food system.
What you might not know is that we are a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, run by a board of volunteeers from Schenectady and surrounding towns. While it may seem that an organization run by volunteers may operate with minimal expenses, this is not the case. Schenectady Greenmarket employs a market assistant, rents space for the Winter Market, pays for promotional material, and has costs such as equipment and insurance necessary for a large weekly market. While much of our income comes from vendor fees, we also rely on support from the community.
In order to keep the market affordable for vendors and to ensure its continued success, we are asking friends and family to consider a tax-deductible donation to Schenectady Greenmarket. Any amount that you can contribute will be greatly appreciated. Employer matching contributions (such as GE) are gratefully accepted. All donors will be recognized on our website.
To make a secure online donation, complete the donation form above and click "Register".
On behalf of the board, thank you for showing your support for Schenectady Greenmarket. We look forward to seeing you at the market!
P.S. Save the date – Sunday, January 6, 2013 – Outstanding in the Arcade, a Farm-to-Table dinner hosted by Proctors and Schenectady Greenmarket featuring local chefs and a guest chef from Mexican Radio! Tickets available from Proctors. Details on our website.
